Learning SEO in a single day is not going to be possible.

You are able to understand the fundamentals of SEO within a single day but to truly understand SEO it’s going to take more time than 24 hours.

SEO is simple, and, at the same time, it is complex.

The beautiful thing is though, is that you can teach yourself how to do it, and you can get incredible results with consistent disciplined effort of focus with learning this subject.

How Long Does It Take to Learn SEO?

The amount of time it takes to learn SEO depends on how much time you’re willing to dedicate to learning how to do it.

If you’re serious and want to get a greater understanding as soon as you can, and are able to dedicate to 8 or more hours per day to thoroughly learning the subject, then the minimum amount of time for you to have a good understanding of how it works is roughly 2-3 months.

That being said, if you have the right recipe for how to implement SEO on a website and you’re following the right step by step guides/videos, then it is possible for you to learn and do SEO within a day.

This is because you can implement something that a more experienced SEO has already been able to produce.

Some of those SEO lessons you can learn may include keyword optimisation, title selection, heading structure, content quality, internal linking, publishing, as well as many other on-page, off-page, and technical SEO methods.

What Are the Main Areas to Learn in SEO?

There are three core areas of SEO:

  1. On-Page
  2. Off-Page
  3. Technical

1. On-Page SEO

On-page SEO is everything you do on a website, that allows you to better rank on search engines.

This includes factors like, the frequency of keywords on a page, the internal links between those pages on a website, the breadcrumbs at the top of each page, the use of H1s, titles, meta descriptions, image optimisation, and much more.

2. Off-Page SEO

Off-page SEO refers to all of the signals that occur outside of a website that demonstrate to search engines that you should rank as an authority source on the web.

The largest area of off-page SEO is backlinks.

A backlink is where one website with hyperlink to your website. E.g. this text highlighted right here is a backlink to another website.

Backlinks are the foundation of how how GoogleBot, BingBot, and other search engine robots, are able to crawl the web, and find the most popular websites, i.e. the websites that have received the most backlinks from each other.

Backlinks work on a scale whereby the more high quality websites that link to your website, the higher the chances of your website ranking higher than your competitors, depending on not whether your competitors have a lot of backlinks.

Other off-page SEO signals include brand mentions, PR, social media, and even non digital advertising methods which increase brand awareness.

3. Technical SEO

Technical SEO you can think of is the health of the website.

If your website doesn’t have good health, then the chances of your pages ranking will be low.

Some of the biggest technical issues I see occur are: crawlability of the site, JavaScript issues, broken pages, broken backlinks, non-mobile friendly pages, and slow page speed.

Users don’t like these things.

They don’t want to see them, which is why websites with poor technical SEO will see their pages deindexed or devalued.
